EA’s Do’s & Dont’s at the Beginning Stages of your Renovation
We know it can be overwhelming when starting to think about your home renovation. It’s great to get inspired by Pinterest, Instagram, and blogs but it can sometimes get to be too much to process.
EA Renovations is here to help guide you from start to finish. Keep reading our Do’s & Dont’s when starting your home renovation.
Do - Think about the lifestyle you will be having inside the home. This is the best starting point! Do you have kids? Pets? Do you have overnight guests often? Will you need a home office? Larger laundry room? These questions will help guide you for inspiration when you are looking on social channels; you will have an easier time knowing if the inspiration is right for your lifestyle and pass if it’s not. The goal of a renovation is to add what is missing in your current home.
Don’t - Tackle each room separately without a plan. This will lead to an incohesive home. If your budget doesn’t allow you to have your entire house renovated at once, then at least have a clear vision of how you want each room to look and slowly build your dream home over time. Always prioritize rooms that add efficiency to the other rather than glamour. We recommend using the same contractors for your entire project if possible; this will likely save you money and keep your home harmonious from one room to the next.
Do - Shop around for the right contractor for the job. This is very important when looking to start your renovation. Every contractor team has a different style and work process. Finding the right contractor for your particular job can take more time than expected. You’ll want to look at their portfolio and your vision board and see if they have similarities. You’ll also want to request a quote from each team once you have decided which ones are the best fit.
Don’t - Forget to have appliances as part of your inspiration. Knowing what appliances you are incorporating into your home renovation is essential. Appliances like stoves and fridges add character to a house, and you want your home to come together. There are so many appliances with different settings and uses - it’s not something you will want to leave for the last minute. Furniture is a lot easier to incorporate with the finished renovation, and we recommend waiting to shop till closer to the end of the reno.
